we're all stories in the end

Day 11: What actor would you love to see guest star on Doctor Who?

Kate Winslet

I know that they wanted to cast her as River Song (though the role inevitably went to the talented Alex Kingston), but I just can’t help imagining KW in an epic guest star role. In fact, I can imagine her as a young Elizabeth I that the Doctor encounters (and did we ever get the story of why, exactly, Elizabeth was running after him in “The Shakespeare Code”?). Come on, can you imagine the awesome dialogue that would happen between her and the Doctor? :D

JK Rowling

I can imagine her in a “blink and you’ll miss it” type of role, playing herself. I mean, we all know the Doctor’s a Harry Potter fan, and I’m pretty sure that he’s had his copies of the books signed by Rowling herself. Bonus points if they manage to make her presence part of the overall episode, *and* insert several Potter references in the story.

I always had a feeling that Rupert just knew - I always had the feeling, I may be wrong, if you interview Rupert, he might say different, but my strong feeling is that he got Ron inside and out, and I don’t know that he needed anyone to tell him. Dan is one of the most inquiring minds I have ever met. Dan wants to know, he wants to understand, and he does, and he makes sure he masters it, and he does it. And Emma, she just - there’s sufficient overlap between Emma and Hermione that she’s just the poster girl for clever girls, isn’t she? She was wonderful, but she could do so much more than just be the nerd, and particularly in the last film she showed that, when she and Dan are playing these two characters are alone. The depth of emotion Emma came up with there was extraordinary. - J.K. Rowling.

One more week ‘til the end.

JK Rowling has written extensive new material about the world of Harry Potter for her new venture, Pottermore, she revealed at a press conference launching the collaborative website.

From Professor McGonagall’s love for a Muggle as a young woman, to how the Dursleys met; from new information about Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff houses, to details about wand wood, the fresh Potter background from the author already stretches to 18,000 words, with more to come.

The material will be used on the new, free Pottermore website, a collaborative project for fans set in the Harry Potter universe. “I wanted to give something back to the fans that have followed Harry so devotedly over the years, and to bring the stories to a new generation,” Rowling revealed. “I hope fans and those new to Harry will have as much fun helping to shape Pottermore as I have. Just as I have contributed to the website, everyone else will be able to join in by submitting their own comments, drawings and other content in a safe and friendly environment. Pottermore has been designed as a place to share the stories with your friends as you journey through the site.”

For the moment, Pottermore will be restricted to the world of the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but all the books will be added in due course. [x]

In real life, Natalie McDonald was a young Canadian fan of the novels with a terminal illness, Leukemia. A friend of her mother’s wrote to J. K. Rowling to ask her to write to Natalie. J.K. Rowling did not receive the letter until after a vacation, and though she admits to fearing it was “too late”, wrote back, telling Natalie what happens to each of the main characters, only to find out from Natalie’s mother that she had passed away. The two women began a friendship, and Natalie was thus added to the books (into Gryffindor, the house of bravery), as a tribute. Her mother kept the contents of the letter secret until her other two children finished reading The Deathly Hallows
